The most wonderful time of the year
By Andrew Webster Dec 18, 2019, 9:36am EST Share this storyIt's that time of year again: time don an ugly Christmas sweater, enjoy the snow, and open up some presents... in Fortnite. Today, Epic Games kicked off the now-annual "Winterfest" event in the battle royale game, which lasts for two weeks starting today. At the heart of the event is a new lodge area in the lobby where players are able to open up presents daily to unlock in-game items like skins, gliders, and emotes.
It's surprisingly interactive; you can move around the lodge, warm yourself by a fire, and pick which present you want to open each day. You can even pick up the gift and shake it to get an idea of what's inside. (I may have been lucky: my first present was a Millennium Falcon glider.) A new event also means a new set of challenges, and the Winterfest challenges will last for the next 20 days, letting players unlock plenty of holiday-themed cosmetics.
The event isn't the only update to Fortnite. As part of the latest patch, there's also a new "battle lab" feature in creative mode. Here's how epic describes it:
Jump into your own battle royale island and set the rules! Select from favorite LTM loot pools, set up combat scenarios with the new bot grenades, and create your own mode by setting options like gravity and fall damage. Fill your game with up to 15 friends on your own island, or matchmake with default options in a public battle lab.
You can check out the complete patch notes here.
Of course, there's plenty more happening in Fortnite at the moment: the game is currently in the midst of a Star Wars crossover event, which, among other things, includes the addition of lightsabers to the game.
